The Antonia Earring is crafted by hand in Ecuador using "Tagua," which comes from the Tagua nut. This nut grows from the Ecuadorian Ivory Palm, Phytelephas aequatorialis, literally translating to “plant elephant." The substance made from the Tagua nut is often called “vegetable ivory.” The Ivory Palm can grow up to 60 feet tall. The Ivory Palm produces regenerative pods. These pods produce seeds that are left to dry in the sun, from these seeds (or nuts) the "vegetable ivory" is made.
They are hollow and, therefore, very lightweight and comfortable to wear. These earrings are for pierced ears and have a brass post fastened to the back of the piece. Not recommended for customers with sensitivity to metal mixtures or brass.
Material: Tagua nut "ivory", brass post and backing, brass connector rings.
