Handwoven in Morocco, these blankets are the woven by the Berbers, which are a hill tribe and major cultural majority in the country. Berber wedding blankets are often woven by a bride's family in anticipation of her wedding.
This is a vintage blanket with woven sequins and rows of fringing. Back is plain with stripes of Kilim ribbon. This piece has two faded pink strings on one side. The use of these are unknown, and they are shown in the photo, use perhaps for tying the blanket around the bride for her journey to her new home. Very interesting and rare Moroccan artifact! Blanket is shown on a queen bed.
